ST. GEORGES, GRENADA – Team Bahamas put the finishing touches on preparation today with their final training session and first look at the Kirani James Stadium here in St. George’s, Grenada.

The hard work is done. Today was about tuning starts, finding rhythm, locking in exchange zones and making sure every athlete is ready to go.

Next up, Saturday’s opening session and the first medal hopefuls for Team Bahamas, highlighted by a pair of reigning gold medalists in the javelin, Akheel Williams in the U17 boys and Taysha Stubbs in the U20 girls.

The morning session also features the prelims of the 100m, 400m and the first few disciplines in the multi events.

Saturday also features the opening ceremony celebrating Caribbean culture, unity and pride, with the parade of athletes set to introduce the region to the stars of this year’s games.

Before leaving for the French nation, I was able to catch up with several of the swimmers who made the CARIFTA team for the first time in their swim careers.

Blue Grey and Ella Brueckner are in the open water competition next week.

And as for the eight-peat, well, the first timers do not lack any confidence at all.
