NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A teenager is facing charges in connection with the attempted armed robbery of a grocery store and the attempted murder of an off-duty policeman.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Latoriano Mackey shot 28-year-old Horace Albury Jr. while trying to rob John Chea and Sons number 2 on October 4.

The teenager is also accused of conspiring with an unnamed person to commit the armed robbery, as well as possession of a 9mm pistol and five unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Mackey was not required to enter pleas to the charges when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

Bail was denied and he was remanded to The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until December 16th for the presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment.

Mackey told the court that he needed to see a doctor because police officers had beaten him to force him to confess.

Mckinney made a note of his complaints and told Mackey that he would be examined by a doctor upon admission to the prison.
