NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In this season of joy and celebration, the Our News team decided to sprinkle in a little friendly competition.
A few members of our team recently challenged themselves to Aetos Holdings Limited’s holiday tradition, the Dough Slappin’ Competition.
The experience not only created a memorable team-building moment, but also left us with a deeper appreciation for the hardworking staff at Marco’s Pizza.
On Tuesday, the Our News team took part in a special edition of Aetos Holdings Limited’s Dough Slappin’ Competition, held at Marco’s Pizza on Bernard Road.
We were put to the test, challenging our agility, teamwork and skill.
Divided into two teams, it was the On the Record team led by Jerome Sawyer versus the Our News editorial team, led by me.
Confidence was high on both sides as the rules were explained.
Xavier Knowles – Media Specialist, Aetos Holdings Limited
“Welcome to Marco’s. It’s a pleasure to have the Our News team here today. You all will be participating in what we call our Dough Slappin’ Competition.”
Knowles laid out how the challenge would work.

“Everyone will be assigned to a station. One person will be slappin’ dough, one person will be saucing dough, one person will be cheesing dough and one person will have the awesome opportunity of ensuring that all of the pepperonis are on that pizza.”
He added that speed and presentation would decide the winner.

“Whoever puts together the pizza the fastest, who have a stopwatch, you will be judged in terms of presentation and time. You will be deemed the winner.”
Once the guidelines were given, we suited up in official Marco’s Pizza uniforms, headed into the kitchen to wash up and received a quick training session before the dough war began.
That is when the trash talk started.
Nathaniel Conliffe – Studio and OB Supervisor, Our News
“You on my team? No. So don’t speak to me. Don’t speak to me. Y’all need to get it together. Go in the corner. DeMarcus Cousins don’t speak to Kobe Bryant.”
Jerome Sawyer – Executive Producer, Our News
“You must present a winning look in order to be the winner. They ain’t winning nothing.”
A Marco’s employee then stepped in to demonstrate the task of the day, effortlessly tossing the dough and assembling a pizza. At that moment, both teams realized securing the win would not be easy.
After a quick huddle, roles were assigned and a game of rock, paper, scissors determined that the On the Record team would go first.
A false start by the On the Record team forced a slight adjustment to the competition’s flow.
They finished with a time of two minutes and 37 seconds, putting the pressure squarely on my team.
The editorial team finished at three minutes and two seconds, falling short in the speed category but hoping presentation could save us.
For me and our digital department head, Rikki Barry, the writing was on the wall.
Denielle Miller – Our News
“I think we lose. Yeah, I think so.”
The final decision followed.
Xavier Knowles – Media Specialist, Aetos Holdings Limited
“The winner, the closest pizza to what we would serve our customers, even though y’all need some more training, would be On the Record.”
Team lead Jerome Sawyer delivered his victory speech, and I conceded.
Jerome Sawyer – Executive Producer, Our News
“On the Record is a winning team. This is what we do, but we had a good competition. We want to congratulate our second-place finisher, hashtag needs improvement.”
Denielle Miller – Our News
“Congratulations to the On the Record team. Next year we will be back, and just like Muhammad Ali when he fought George Foreman in Africa, we gonna take it.”
