NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Boxing Day and New Year’s Day Junkanoo parades, may still be a year away but officials are already looking at ways to expand the Junkanoo route.

Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence Chairman Dion Miller says the plan is to expand the Junkanoo routes and add more seats.

At the moment, Bay Street seats 8,000 people there is growing sentiment the parades have outgrown Bay Street?

Miller says the plan is to reduce the number of groups that could possible shorten parade times.

Then there’s the issue of separating B-group and A-group parades.

Miller believes it can work.

Junkanoo judging is often the center of public and groups’ criticism. Just this year Fancy Dancers contested the Colors Junkanoo Group’s Boxing Day win.
