NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Fathers Reflect on Lessons Learned and Legacies Left

Men across New Providence opened up about the wisdom passed on to them by their fathers.

Samson Newbold – Hopeful Father
“How to be bold, how to be disciplined, and most of all, how to be a man.
Um, growing up, people believe that men don’t cry, men don’t have feelings. And one thing my, um, my mentors have taught me is that when you feel certain things, don’t hold it in.”

Whether through discipline or emotional guidance, many say the greatest lessons from their fathers still shape them, and, in turn, shape the children they’re raising.

Philip Demerittie – Father
“Always, uh, put God first in your life and set a goal and go after it.”

Joseph Morrison – Father
“Whenever he goes anywhere, respect others. Once you respect others, then he’ll get to find out that he’ll get that respect back.”

James Winter – Father
“We have this life and only one life to live, so let’s be there for each other, let’s support each other, and let’s love each other.”

As for the legacy these men hope to leave behind:

Stuart William – Father
“I was a good father, good grandfather, and I died in peace.”

Samson Newbold – Hopeful Father
“You gotta work for what you need and not be lazy, and just keep working and applying yourself.”
