USA – Wesleyan University, says it will no longer grant preference to student applicants with family or donor ties.

It joins a number of other U.S. universities that have already dropped legacy admissions, including Johns Hopkins and MIT.

The president of Wesleyan said that legacy ties did not indicate a student’s ability to succeed, and therefore is negligible in the university’s admission process.

The Supreme Court recently voted 6-3 to repeal decades-old us policies on so-called affirmative action, also known as positive discrimination.
