NASSAU, BAHAMAS – This week the record-breaking heat in the United States is expected to push more toward the east coast, often a summer vacation choice for Bahamians and the area many Bahamians choose to relocate to when choosing to emigrate to The United States.

Scientists are saying this July may go down as the hottest month in earth’s recorded history, and areas in the western united states have regularly been facing sweltering days of triple-digit heat indexes.

There are extreme caution warnings across Florida and South Florida as heat indexes are expected to be between 90 and 103 degrees Fahrenheit, and there have been concerning reports of ocean surface temperatures around South Florida being above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in serious coral bleaching concerns.

Just this week, a bouy showed a temperature reading of 101 degrees Fahrenheit, 6 feet beneath the surface of waters in Manatee Bay Florida.

For context, the average temperature of a hot tub is anywhere between 100 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is extremely concerning for coral reefs which thrive in temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees below that sweltering reading.

So, if you’re gearing up for a trip to the States this week, be sure to take the heat into consideration in your plans and stay cool.
