NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Another lesson is how one Abaco pastor is describing Tropical Storm Nicole. Bishop Silbert Mills opened his sanctuary to be used as a shelter during the storm.

Ahead of Tropical Storm Nicole, two shelters were initially opened for residents – one of them was Friendship Tabernacle Church.

Senior Pastor Silbert Mills says they were happy to open the church to the public. According to the pastor, the church housed 200 evacuees with the capacity to take 200 more. Mills also revealing that nearly 80 percent of evacuees were from the shantytowns.

While many parts of Abaco were without power and water, evacuees at this shelter had a backup system to rely on. He said mattresses were also provided.

The opening of this church as a shelter comes after the church was reportedly searched and Disaster Reconstruction Authority assets seized.

In a viral Facebook video, Mills condemned what he termed a nasty attack against him.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said the government approved the assets being there while State Minister Myles Laroda denied Mills was being targeted.

Today, Mills stressed the importance of forgiveness.

Tropical Storm Nicole was the first system to hit the Abacos after Hurricane Dorian.

Nicole packed more than 60 mph winds with king tide resulting in severe flooding to many communities.

Mills acknowledging worsening weather conditions.
