Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Grand Bahama

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Tornado activity is expected on Grand Bahama, as category 3 hurricane Ian begins tracking slightly east, putting west Grand Bahama in danger of tropical storm conditions.

During a press conference, Tuesday afternoon, Shayvonne Bonaby, head of the Department of Meteorology on Grand Bahama updated residents on current conditions and how to prepare for changing conditions over the next 24-48 hours.

Bonaby said a tropical storm warning has been issued for Grand Bahama, and tropical storm conditions are expected to begin Wednesday morning, into Thursday.

Boaters are advised to find safe harbor until conditions are safer.

Earlier today, Education Minister Glenys Hanna Martin confirmed schools on Grand Bahama have been closed until further notice.

The United States’ National Hurricane Center issued an update on conditions at 5pm Monday, noting that life-threatening storm surge, catastrophic winds and flooding is expected in the Florida Peninsula.
