HAITI – U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Linda Thomas-Greenfield, announced $60 million in additional humanitarian aid to Haiti during her visit on Monday. The aid, bringing the U.S. total to over $165 million this fiscal year, will support nutrition, food security, water, sanitation, and basic goods.

Thomas-Greenfield also revealed that the U.S. Defense Department will increase mine-resistant vehicle support for a U.N.-backed security mission led by Kenya to assist Haiti’s police in combating gang violence. This follows the arrival of 400 Kenyan officers in Haiti to bolster security.

Thomas-Greenfield met with Kenyan police and Haiti’s transitional government leaders to discuss humanitarian needs and political reform.
