UNITED STATES – The U.S. is keeping nationwide flight cuts capped at 6%, despite the end of the government shutdown.

The Transportation Department says it has scrapped plans to raise reductions to 10%, saying controller staffing has “rapidly improved” as back pay is set to resume.

The FAA says the 6% cap will stay in place while airports steadily recover even after days of cancellations. There were more than 900 cancellations on Wednesday alone.

Airlines expect operations to fully normalize within a week, and Thanksgiving travel should still run as planned if recovery continues.
