PUERTO RICO – A new wave of United States military activity is underway in the Caribbean, with troops and equipment coming ashore in Puerto Rico on Friday.

U.S. forces used Navy landing craft to move amphibious vehicles, Humvees and other heavy equipment onto El Faro Beach in the town of Arroyo. All of it arrived from a San Antonio class amphibious transport dock that has been stationed in the region for several weeks.

Footage shows service members unloading supplies and transporting equipment along the coastline, but officials have not disclosed what was moved to local bases or the reason for the operation.

The landings come as the United States maintains an elevated military presence across the Caribbean, following recent deployments of aircraft, naval vessels and additional personnel.
