NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Opposition leader Michael Pintard says he hopes the Prime Minister used his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to not only listen but defend the country’s interests.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Opposition
“The Bahamas primarily acts in its own interests, and therefore, I certainly believe that we look for opportunities where they can be a benefit to the Bahamian people. We should also take into consideration who our primary allies are and seek to have engagement with them to hear whatever their concerns are. But ultimately we have to act within the interests of the Bahamian people.”

He also commented on the recruitment of Cuban healthcare workers and urged the government to ensure that the program complies with international best practices.

Michael Pintard – Leader, Opposition
“It is important for the government to look at the program they are running and to ensure that it complied with international best practices when you have persons coming from a country that required that a portion of their remuneration goes to their government. It has to be examined.”

Pintard also added that the Opposition is preparing a robust group of candidates to address key issues affecting the Bahamian people, such as education, the cost of living, crime, and healthcare.

“We are making ready to put forth a robust group of candidates that the public will have confidence in and we’re going to roll out our platform that addresses issues that affect the Bahamian people, education, cost of living, the high level of crime, and the challenges in healthcare.”
