NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Songs of praise and prayer filled downtown New Providence Monday night for the Bahamas Christian Council’s National Day of Prayer Service in Rawson Square.

President of the Bahamas Christian Council, Bishop Delton Fernander was pleased with the turnout.

The call for a national day of prayer initially came from Prime Minister Philip Davis last week, after the country saw 8 murders in the first week of 2024.

Since then, three more have been murdered, and on Sunday night the prime minister gave his first national address for the year, centered around their plan to get the rampant crime rate under control.

The governor general, the prime minister, and leaders from both the Davis administration and the opposition were in attendance.

The night included prayers for leadership, marriages, parents, at risk youth, even featuring a highlight on education, as the crowd was called to reach out toward Education Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin to pray over her ministry and leadership.

Founder and President of Great Commission Ministries, Bishop Walter Hanchell, is no stranger to the power of church community outreach efforts.
