UNITED STATES – The USDA announced a proposal on Monday to limit Salmonella in poultry products, aiming to reduce illnesses.

Under the new rule, poultry companies must keep salmonella levels below a specific threshold and test for six harmful strains.

Contaminated meat would be recalled despite industry progress, illness rates remain high, with the CDC reporting 1.35 million annual infections.

The proposal includes monitoring and vaccinating birds. The national chicken council opposes the rule, citing cost concerns.
