NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Shoppers have been turning out in droves for the Back to School VAT holiday. The tax break, which runs until September 11th covers things like uniforms, school supplies, backpacks, and other traditional back to school essentials. Our News spoke to retailers and shoppers to learn more on the start of this year’s back to school VAT holiday.

The aisles of uniform and school supply stores around the country are bustling as the much anticipated VAT holiday on school supplies began Monday.

Carey’s Fabric and Uniform Store Managing Director Kim Gibson says back-to-school buying habits have changed in the post-pandemic economy. She hopes the VAT holiday will make it possible for affected families to be able to afford more.

Over at John’s Shoes & Accessories, General Manager John Cathopoulis says they haven’t seen much change in their traffic since the VAT holiday was announced.

And John’s isn’t the only store with shoppers unaware the VAT holiday is happening, when we spoke with Carey’s customers, some shoppers had no clue about the back to school tax breaks.
