Police-Involved Shooting Victim’s Death Deemed A Homicide

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The jury at a coroner’s inquest into the fatal police shooting  of 31-year-old Azario Major has classified his death as a homicide. 

The jury returned a unanimous verdict of manslaughter on Wednesday afternoon.

A coroner’s jury does not determine guilty or civil liability.

The DPP’s Office will decide whether the officers will be prosecuted.  

Major was shot multiple times outside of Woody’s Bar on Firetrail Road after he allegedly pulled a gun on Detective Sergeant 2825 Sweeting, Detective Sergeant 3039 Johnson; Detective Corporal 3726 Rolle and Inspector R. Saunders.

Prior to the shooting, Major was reportedly out of the establishment by the officers after behaving in a disorderly manner.

Major returned a short time later, driving a white Hyundai Elantra.The officers ordered him out of the vehicle and opened fire after he allegedly pointed a gun at him.
