NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Young, full of life, and always smiling, that’s how loved ones described Jamal “JJ” Maycock, but late Saturday night, gunfire cut his life short at the corner of Hay and Comfort Streets.

Police say the 24-year-old was at a park when two men on a motorcycle pulled up and began shooting.

Maycock tried to run but collapsed nearby.

His sister, Rodricka Johnson, says they were home, just down the street, when they got the call.

“I hold his… I, I feel, um… I feel by his mouth and came out his mouth, and I placed my hand on his head. I cover his head, and I lean over in his ass, and I said a prayer. And I put my hand back by his nose, and that’s when I feel this… breath, I mean this air, rush from his nose. So I say that probably was his last breath.”

JJ’s death comes just days before Mother’s Day, a time when families gather in love.

But now, his mother is too broken to speak.

Johnson says her mom and JJ shared a deep bond.

“Everything was JJ to her, very close. When you see him, you see her. Like, we, me and him, we both have a, had a good relationship with, um… I mean like a very close relationship. She would give us the world if she could.”

“It’s unbelievable. It’s hurtful. We, we really didn’t expect this.”

They now have this message for those responsible for their loved one’s death.
