NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s International Parliamentarism Day – a day celebrated annually on June 30 and mandated by the United Nations.

The idea is that parliaments are to be more representative, including carrying out self-assessments, adapting to new technologies and working to include more women and young MPs

We asked House Speaker Patricia Deveaux and Senate President Lashell Adderley about the inclusion of women.

Frankly put, the senate president says fear prevents women from coming forward.

But both women feel the Bahamian parliament is strong and will remain so for years to come.
