NASSAU, BAHAMAS – When it comes to ocean conservation, much of what lies beneath remains a mystery but one Bahamian-led initiative is working to change that.

Marmoris was founded by Bahamian researcher Denley Delaney and is on a mission few in the region have attempted deep sea exploration, led by Bahamians.

Its mission is to make deep-ocean exploration more accessible by using smaller, lighter technologies that can be deployed from local vessels without the need for million-dollar ships or massive equipment.

Already, the team is in the water  logging nearly 200 hours of underwater footage in Abaco, the Berry Islands, and off New Providence and that research is revealing a remarkable diversity.

By training Bahamians and collaborating with regional scientists, Marmoris wants to ensure decisions about the ocean come from those who depend on it most.
