NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis sought to clarify the details of the Cruise Port deal following Immigration Minister Keith Bell’s assertion that the Bahamian people have zero ownership in the port.

Dr. Minnis says 49% of the port is owned by Global Ports Limited, two percent, by the Yes Foundation, and the remaining 49% is owned by the Bahamian people.

The former prime minister has gone on record to call the cruise port the “FNM’s baby” suggesting the PLP took credit for the FNM’s work.

Dr. Minnis also added that revenue will rise as tourism continues to rebound. He says the government receives 10% VAT on all of that, adding that many taxi drivers, straw vendors, and hair braiders are benefitting from the deal.

The official opposition then questioned why the PLP did not cancel the deal, which prompted a screaming match between both sides.
