NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Royal Bahamas Defense Force doing its part to align with the United Nation’s goals of gender equality and the empowerment of women.

To this end, commander of the defense force, Commodore Dr. Raymond King notes that women currently on the force have risen to the highest rank achieved by women over the organization’s 39-year history.

Commodore King says women account for 18.5 percent of their population.

In the latest promotional exercise, some 28 percent of those advancing to higher ranks were women.

In the most recent recruitment exercise, 30 percent of new entries were women. Commodore King says these figures speak to the organization’s commitment to having women represented at all levels on the force.

From 1985 to now, King says more women are showing an interest in the organization. In fact, he says there is an extensive waitlist.
