NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Women United is pleased to announce the election of Mrs. Lisa Bostwick-Dean as the new President of the organization, following our recent Annual General Meeting. Lisa Bostwick-Dean succeeds Mrs. Prodesta Moore, who formed and led Women United with distinction and will now serve as Vice President, bringing her wealth of experience and vision to this important role.

“I am excited to lead Women United, as we work to bring about legal and societal changes to protect, uplift, assist and empower women and children in The Bahamas,” said Bostwick-Dean. “My board and I have an ambitious agenda which includes hosting our first Women’s Empowerment Symposium, the Women’s Summit in conjunction with partner organizations and the celebration of Women United Day on November 9. These events will serve as pivotal platforms for dialogue, engagement, and mobilisation to advance the rights and well-being of women and children. “

Lisa Bostwick-Dean is currently the Managing Partner at Bostwick and Bostwick, law firm and was a Former Senator under the Minnis administration. She has served on the Women’s United board since 2023. She is the daughter of the first woman to be elected to the House of Assembly, Dame Janet Bostwick and Former President of the Senate, Senate President J Henry Bostwick who passed away in May of this year.

We are also delighted to announce the election of the following Board Members:

· Martha McFall, Treasurer

· Helen Scott Morrison, Assistant Treasurer

· Raine Thompson, Assistant Secretary

· Santina McKinney, Returning Director

· Kelley Bostwick-Toote, Returning Director

· Alexandra Mallis, Returning Director

· Dr. Novia T Carter-Looki, Director

“Their commitment and expertise are invaluable to the continued success and impact of Women United’s initiatives” added Bostwick. “We also want to encourage other organizations and individuals to join and help as we need all hands on deck to make changes and improve our lives as women in our country.”

During her two-year tenure as President, Ms. Bostwick is committed to deepening Women United’s advocacy efforts and strengthening partnerships with NGOs and Civil Society Organisations that provide an array of services and support to women and children. “We also want to work on a few other initiatives, such as: advocating for the introduction of classes in our schools which teach students about good touch, bad touch, boundaries, and self-respect; developing a better system to identify troubled young people so as to give them specialised care and attention; and, working with the police, social services and NGO’s to support persons who are abused so that they feel safe speaking out.”

Women United looks forward to a new chapter of growth, collaboration, and continued advocacy with Ms. Bostwick at the helm. To learn more, follow Women United on social media or attend their next meeting this Friday, the 26th, at 6:30 p.m. at Starbucks at Harbour Bay.
