Women’s National Beach Soccer Team Triumphs in Fort Lauderdale Open, Karen Wert Shines!

FORT LAUDERDALE, U.S.A. – The Women’s National Beach Soccer Team recently returned from playing in the National Beach Soccer League Fort Lauderdale Open over the weekend.

The team, coached by Daria Adderley went 2 and 2 in the tournament, winning its opener against a team from Santa Cruz, California that they won 5-4 thanks to 2 goals from Karen Wert.

They would drop the next two games against Southeast Virginia and Beach Soccer LA 5-4 and 9-0 respectively, but they left the tournament on a high note winning their rematch against the Virginia squad 5-4.

Karen Wert was the leading goal scorer for Team Bahamas with 6.

NCAA Basketball

Grand Bahama-born Franco Miller Jr. had 17 points and 5 rebounds as he led his Florida Gulf Coast Eagles to a win over in-state conference rival Stetson University.

The 6’3″ Bahamas National Team guard’s points came on 7 of 13 shooting in 30 minutes off the bench as his team routed Stetson, 80-56.

The win was much needed to Miller and his Eagles as it is only their second in five games of conference play.

They’ll have a chance to get a streak going on Thursday night when they host Lipscomb University on their home court.
