NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears revealed yesterday he received details of the fuel hedging program from Bahamas Power and Light executives.

On several occasions, the works minister denied receiving the details, including most recently in the House of Assembly in October.

Sears says the briefing was passed on to the financial secretary but was rejected.

Our News understands one of the reasons was because large hotels would’ve benefited the most.

Prior to yesterday’s admission, Sears said he never received a briefing.

He said while in New York in early November, he searched his email and found he did actually receive the briefing.

He said at his earliest opportunity he corrected the record in Parliament.

The opposition maintains the failure of the government to execute the hedge resulted in rising power bills for thousands of Bahamians.

We also asked Sears about the contradiction between him and the Prime Minister about whether or not the PM saw the briefing too.
