NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Azaria Bethel wears many hats and has a variety of talents, but one that truly sets her apart is her work as an author.

At just eleven years old, Azaria co-authored a book alongside her mother, sharing her personal journey in a book titled Navigating My Unique Mind.

Azaria lives with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD.

She says the book was an opportunity to give readers a glimpse into her world, helping them better understand her experiences and the way she sees life.

Azaria Bethel – Author

“When I realize that I have ADHD, which is a part of your diversity and I wanted to do that because it was probably a lot of information I can get from that and it would bring some awareness to the school at least to help people learn about it. My mom wanted me to write a book because there was so much information…”

Even though I flipped through the pages casually, the work put in was evident. The text is easy to read with colorful illustrations, cross word puzzles, coloring pages and even a mom’s corner.

She tells me writing this book taught her a lot about herself.

Azaria Bethel – Author

“Don’t be afraid to be different because it’s just an ability that is different from everyone else and you could do different better things different than what neurotypical, which is normal children could do.”

Also, as I mentioned earlier, Azaria has many talents.

“I do golf, I used to do tennis. I did chess and I still do some classes. I do piano… I draw and paint.”

So, for other children leaving with the disorder, she says this

Azaria Bethel – Author

“Don’t be afraid to have ADHD or whatever in your neurodivergent ability or disability, however you wanna call…[what] you have because it’s not a disease that needs to be cured. It’s an ability…[where] you need to get awareness for it”

Now, Azaria’s book “Navigating My Unique Mind” is available at select bookstores in New Providence and Eleuthera, as well as on various online platforms.
