NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After months of efforts to acquire monkeypox vaccines, a batch of 1,400 monkeypox vaccines arrived in New Providence, Monday afternoon.

Our News team was on the ground as the British Airways flight carrying the doses landed at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

The Ministry of Health has been in talks with the Pan American Health Organization about acquiring these vaccines since early summer.

Health Minister Dr. Michael Darville explains who should get the vaccine and why, as health officials note the high-risk group is not limited to population of men who have sex with men.

Stored correctly, the vaccines will remain viable until 2027.
