30-year-old Killed After an Argument Turned Deadly

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – What started as a private function ended in violence on Saturday, when a heated altercation between two men turned deadly.

The incident unfolded shortly before midnight on Penfold Court, off Carmichael Road, on Saturday night.

Police Press Liaison Chief Superintendent Sheria King outlines what they gathered from the scene:

“There was a private function at a residence through this corner when an altercation between two males occurred resulting in one of those males being stabbed to the upper body.”

It was later learned the victim suffered a wound to the neck, and was pronounced dead on the scene. Family members identify the victim as 30-year-old Antonio Bethel.

As officers processed the area, grief quickly poured into the street, as the victim’s mother had to be consoled, crying out that “her baby” was killed, and a brother stood nearby, visibly shaken.

A close relative, declining to appear on camera, describes the family’s loss like this:

Family Member –

“ It is very [tragic] at this moment because she, the mother, have already [lost] her daughter due to cancer, and this is her last son, the last of, I think eight…this is very touchy situation.”

No word yet on the suspect as police are still working to determine exactly what led to the deadly dispute.

However, initial police reports indicates the suspect fled the scene after the stabbing.

The killing comes just days after another stabbing, prompting police to urge residents again to walk away from conflicts before it turns violent.

“ ….We have been cautioning the general public that there’s a better way. Find a resolution to your conflict because we have a PSA that’s out there now. Don’t fight it out. Let’s talk it out. So we are asking, we are appealing to the general public to resolve their conflict in a meaningful manner.”
