RBPF Eyes New Equipment for Fire Services Department
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The fire services branch has had their hands busy with multiple fires in the past few weeks. Police commissioner Shanta Knowles says the police force is eying new equipment to beef up that division.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The fire services branch has had their hands busy with multiple fires in the past few weeks. Police Commissioner Shanta Knowles says the police force is eying new equipment to beef up that division.
It comes as officers monitor a blaze on Carmichael Road that caused a major issue for drivers and residents Thursday.
As fire services officers battle another blaze, this time on Carmichael road, police commissioner Shanta Knowles says the force is looking to assist in ramping up efforts for fire services officers.
On Thursday, fire services officers were called to a bush fire on Carmichael Road that, at one point, made the roadway impassible.
Commissioner Knowles telling Our News the force is looking overseas for new supplies.
“We are looking at new equipment. We have already visited two locations in Europe to determine if the equipment in those locations can assist us better. In a short time, we will present our documents to the government, a very very short time because we do hope to get some of those equipment to help us battle the blazes that we’re seeing in our islands,” Commissioner Knowles said.
Fire services officers were also busy last week battling a major forest in Grand Bahama that in some instances saw vehicles and homes caught on fire, renewing the demand for more firetrucks on that island.
Shortly before that, another forest fire raged in North Abaco, speaking to the most recent issue this morning on the sidelines of a breakfast for fire services officers, chief fire officer Demeris Armbrister said while the matter was brought under control, the area wasn’t in the clear just yet.
Armbrister said four fire units responded to the blazer Thursday and left this advice for residents traversing the area.
