Sailing
The Bahamas contingent arrived in St. Croix earlier this week for the International Sunfish Class Association (ISCA) World cChampionships.
The team of Emit Knowles, Kahden Knowles and Abel Ponnoore will compete with sailors from around the world to determine who’s the top in their age group.
The group of sailors arrived earlier in the week, and the races were scheduled for today, but some bad weather and some rough water delayed the official start of the races.
Although the sailors did manage to get in the water and have some fun.
The government has made a push in recent years to promote the sport of sailing, doing public outreach and establishing initiatives to make it more accessible to interested youth.
The fact that Bahamians are qualified to compete in this prestigious event tells that this push is working.
If they can pick up a couple of medals along the way, they’ll be up there with the best in the world.
