UNITED STATES – The 6’4″ guard from Bimini has taken on the role of clutch shot maker early in the season for the Philadelphia 76ers, hitting a clutch three-pointer for the second night in a row to help his team pull out a 109-104 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
Just like Friday night, the Sixers were up one.
The score was 102-101, and like Friday night, the shot came within the final minute with 36.1 on the clock.
VJ sized up the defender, made a move, then hit a step-back dagger to lock up the win.
That shot was good for 30% of his points in the game, because he only scored 10, but he did the gritty work, grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds, blocking a shot, and getting a steal.
LeBron James sat the game out, but Tyrese Maxey picked up the slack, going for a season-high 38 points.
Anfernee Simons was a microwave, scoring 19 points off the bench.
Also, here’s a fun stat: backup center Dean Wade, who started in the place of Joel Embiid, led the team in assists with 10.
Grayson Allen led the Hornets in scoring off the bench with 27 points, while Brandon Miller had 25, 5, and 5.
Walcott to Experiment With Position Change in Arizona Fall League
6’4″ Texas rangers prospect from New Providence, Sebastian Walcott was signed in 2023 as a shortstop, and he spent the next three seasons working his way through the minors.
He’s been an elite hitter at all minor league levels, good enough for the Rangers to think he has a legitimate shot at a roster spot next year.
However, their dilemma is finding a spot for him in the field.
According to Jesse Borek of MILB.com, they’re going to let him get reps in the outfield this coming week in the Arizona Fall League.
Arizona Fall League is an offseason six-team league where the top prospects in the minors play against each other in high-stress situations to see if they have what it takes.
Teams tend to experiment with position changes in fall league with players that they anticipate will have to play a different spot in the majors.
So, Walcott’s situation isn’t unique.
Despite this, the Rangers feel that Walcott is a dynamic enough athlete that playing the outfield will come naturally to him, but he still needs game-reps to get ready,
This is about as good a place as any to get them.
