Immigration Protestors Blocks OPM Entrance
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A peaceful protest intensifying outside the Office of the Prime Minister today, as a group led by activist and Coalition of Independents Leader Lincoln Bain tried to deliver a letter to OPM on recommendations to address the immigration challenge.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A peaceful protest intensifying outside the Office of the Prime Minister today, as a group led by activist and Coalition of Independents Leader Lincoln Bain tried to deliver a letter to OPM on recommendations to address the immigration challenge.
The group of protestors giving the government a 14-day deadline to get moving on immigration issues.
The group gathering outside OPM, in a peaceful protest that eventually blocked OPM’s main entrance.
For decades The Bahamas has wrestled with illegal migrants from Haiti. That situation has intensified in recent years, as the country faces economic, health and political challenges.
But COI Leader Lincoln Bain making it clear, the group is not against Haitians, rather Bain says he believes its time to get a firm grasp on the issue.
To do that, the group brought with them proposed amendments to the country’s immigration laws and 10 recommendations on how to address the issue.
Other recommendations include banning anyone who enters The Bahamas illegally from gaining any status and form a joint task force to target, arrest and repatriate illegal migrants, with the help of 500 volunteers who can be deputized to assist.
After multiple attempts to deliver the letter, an officer ultimately delivered the letter to OPM.
