Deaf Community: Understanding The Plight
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Annette Lunn is not just a sign language interpreter at the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, she is also a mother to a deaf son.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Annette Lunn is not just a sign language interpreter at the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, she is also a mother to a deaf son.
She is often asked to interpret for seminars, workshops, and even job and visa interviews. But, imagine she says, a day in the life of a deaf person.
Lunn says she believes sign language should actually be a part of school curriculum. referring to her hard-of-hearing granddaughter, she explains even babies can learn the language.
But make no mistake, Lunn says there are many people in the deaf community who are working and thriving.
