NASSAU, BAHAMAS – My journey of discovery started at the Doctor’s Hospital Lab on Carmichael Road.

A few vials of blood drawn that day, ultimately held answers to any unknown – health crisis in my future.

The battery of tests included screenings for: abnormal blood sugar – signaling pre or type two diabetes.

High cholesterol – and the potential for heart disease or elevated blood pressure – and the chance of a stroke to name a few.

For men – like me – in the 40 and over age group, there are physical red flags that can and should prompt your annual check.

It’s the type of diagnosis that Dr. Janette Martin who heads the weight loss and diabetes program in the Doctor’s Hospital Centerville Medical Center – sees regularly.

Then there’s family history.

Another high-risk factor for us men in the 40 and over club – is cancer.

The lesson here – your annual physical – and regular tests are critical steps to a longer, and better quality of life.
