A Community Comes Alive Ahead of a Night of Culture, Food and Music

NASSAU , BAHAMAS – It’s one of the biggest community celebrations on the local calendar, Fox Hill Day, and it’s already in full swing.

All day, Fox Hillians have been out celebrating their community, culture and traditions, with church services, vendors cashing in on the festivities and festival-goers already dancing in the streets.

The party may be at night , but in Fox Hill, the celebration starts long before the sun goes down.

Government officials toured the community, visiting churches and spending time with residents and children, all leading up to what’s expected to be a lively night of food, music and culture.

And at Fox Hill Park, the excitement was already in the air.

Vendors lined the streets, setting up their tents, stocking their stalls and getting ready for one of the community’s biggest nights of the year.

For some Fox Hillians, this is more than just a night of celebration.

It’s a tradition they’ve been a part of for decades, one that brings families, friends and the entire community together.

“I born and grow up in Fox Hill, so I’ve been coming here from I born, from 1962.”

Gearing up for Fox Hill Day tonight, many of you may see it as just another celebration, but they see it as a way to prepare their kids to go back to school, to pay another bill and for many more economic benefits.

“It’s a time everybody come out here to make a few extra dollars. My family who out here now come out here to make a few extra dollars.”

Chairman of the Fox Hill Day Festival Committee Warren Davis says that economic boost is one of the festival’s biggest benefits.

And he says you don’t have to run a full-scale business to get in on the action.

“I want Fox Hillians to get involved in setting up a tent, or just having a parking lot in their yard for persons in the park, or just go in your yard and just set up a tent and start to sell some food, invite people to come by.”

And as night falls, the energy is expected to go up another notch.

Davis says the entertainment lineup will give festival-goers plenty to look forward to, with music and performances expected to keep the crowd entertained throughout the night.

“Tonight we have Mamadi and Raikwan and the Pond Band will be on stage tonight. So it’s gonna be a grand time tonight on the stage.”

Now the greasy pole is greased, the stage is set and Fox Hill Day is ready to deliver another night of community, culture and celebration.
