NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Rassin Story, a newly published book honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Meyer Rassin, was formally presented to the British High Commissioner this week as part of Remembrance Week activities.

Dr. Rassin was a World War II Royal Air Force medical officer who later became the first surgeon in the Bahamas and the founder of Doctor’s Hospital. His son, Dr. Barry Rassin, authored the book to preserve his father’s far reaching impact on the nation’s healthcare system.

British Legion Bahamas Branch Chairperson Adina Munroe Charlow says the presentation highlights the importance of recognizing individuals who served during the war and continued to contribute long after. She notes that Dr. Rassin’s story reflects both sacrifice and innovation, shaping the foundation of modern medicine in the country.

Dr. Rassin says he hopes the book will help more Bahamians understand the role his father played in advancing local medical care after the war and improving the quality of life for thousands.

British High Commissioner Smita Rositti called the presentation meaningful, adding that personal stories like Dr. Rassin’s help deepen the public’s understanding of service during wartime and the legacies that follow.

The British Legion says the presentation is one of several events honoring veterans and their families throughout Remembrance Week.
