BARBADOS – When I walked into Grantley Adams international Airport in Barbados on Monday night, waiting to greet me were Alyissa and Jonathan with a welcome sign bearing my name.

It was a small gesture, but one that made a big first impression.

This is my second visit to Barbados this year, as I was here in August for Crop Over, and now I’m back this time to experience the island through its food, drink and culture.

I’m here at the invitation of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. for the Barbados Food and Rum Festival, which runs November 5th through the 8th.

However, if you love good food, great drinks and a little island entertainment, this is the place to be.

Barbados, widely recognized as the birthplace of rum, is using the festival to showcase more than just its signature spirits.

It’s an opportunity to put Bajan flavors, local produce, agriculture, manufacturing and entertainment in the spotlight.

The excitement is already building, with popular events like Rise and Rum and Liquid Gold Fest reportedly sold out.

However, before I could enjoy any of that, I had to get there, and that’s where my journey took an interesting turn right here at home in Nassau.

Instead of the usual airport rush, I got a helping hand from Nassau Flight Services’ fast track team.

When I arrived at Lynden Pindling International Airport, I was presented with my boarding pass. From there, my fast track agent, Crystal, took over.

She escorted me to the Caribbean Airlines counter to check my luggage, then guided me through security and up to the Lignum Lounge.

For me, that was a great way to start the trip. Less time navigating the airport, less stress, and more time to enjoy the journey.

Now that I’ve arrived in Barbados, the real adventure is just getting started.
