NASSAU, BAHAMAS – At last year’s Swimming Nationals Alpha Aquatics placed third overall with 1,143 points.

This year they’re trying to surpass that with good starts, great flip turns and fast swims.

We caught up with the team at one of their final practices  over the weekend before the big meet; here’s Head Coach Latahara Forbes on preparation.

“We’ve been preparing for nationals from September,” she said.

“We knew that it would be a difficult four days so we have been working on starts, finishes, turns, everything to fine tune and get ready to race quickly.”

She also spoke about keeping her swimmers mentally fit as well.

And Coach Forbes says keeping her younger swimmers focused is not as hard as some may think.

And the overall goal for the club?

“We want every child to reach their personal goal,” Coach Forbes said.

“At the beginning of the swim season, we sat down and went through everyone’s goal, everyone’s expectations for nationals. We’ve worked towards that”.

The championships begin on Thursday with the opening ceremonies slated for Friday evening at 5:30pm.
