Our entertainment correspondent Denielle Miller has the highlights.

Dancehall, lovers rock, roots reggae, and raggamuffin music filled the air at the old Carnival Grounds on Saturday night as Alpha Sounds Promotions took patrons back in time with Reggae Rewind.

Dubbed “A Grown People’s Party,” the pre-Father’s Day concert featured several local DJs and was headlined by Barrington Levy and Serani.

“Before the scene became active here on the Carnival Grounds and the artists hit the stage, we had the opportunity to speak to the legendary Barrington Levy.”

“The crowd, I feel from the crowd, and the crowd feels from me.”

And that exchange was thrilling.

As Levy performed a montage of his hits, his unique voice revitalized the audience, sparking intense moments of nostalgia.

Proving the impact of his music, a triumph Levy told me was not planned, but happened by chance.

“Well, good music is always going to be timeless, you know. That much I know. I don’t make music that’s gone blaze up a house. I make music that stands the test of time.”

“If you had to give advice to young artists, what would it be? Write your own compositions and make sure you write words of wisdom and words that can uplift people in a positive way. They talk now about sex and guns, and they follow artists who do things that don’t make sense and go viral. You want to try? No. Be original.”
