American Tourist Has $31K Forfeited After Failing to Declare

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 42-year-old American tourist who failed to accurately declare how much money he was leaving the country with has had $31,359 forfeited to the Crown.

Avieli Itah, an American of Israeli heritage, pleaded guilty to failure declare at his arraignment before Senior Magistrate Kendra Kelly.

On August 15th, Itah was clearing U.S. Customs at the Lynden Pindling International Airport when a border patrol agent asked him how much money he was traveling with.
Itah’s declaration form stated that he had over $10,000.

Itah removed $21,359 from his bag. However, an additional $10,000 was found during a search.
According to Itah, he and his wife had brought $15,000 with them and had won the additional money at Baha Mar’s casino.

Magistrate Kelly fined Itah $1,000 and forfeited the $31, 359 to the Crown.
