NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The vice president of the Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association says if things don’t change for the industry soon, customers could experience vastly different service at the pumps.

There have been layoffs at some gas stations since the minimum wage increase, implemented in January of this year, according to Vasco Bastian, VP of the association.

The Bahamas Petroleum Retailers Association is still hoping to have a meeting with Prime Minister Philip Davis and Minister of Economic Affairs Michael Halkitis to find what they hope to be a simple fix moving from a fixed margin to a floating percentage margin.

But Bastian says it’s been hard to get any response.

If no action is taken to amend the margins, Bastian warns it could lead for the industry to request something that would change the face of gas stations in the country.
