NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Arrest warrants have been issued for three policemen after they failed to appear before the Coroner’s Court Wednesday, while 11 other officers against whom homicide by manslaughter verdicts were issued were granted bail.

Constables Shando King and Samuel Ferguson were not present on July 22, 2024, when a jury returned a verdict of homicide by manslaughter in the 2022 shooting of Valentino Johnson.

Once again, they were no-shows after summonses were issued for them to be committed to stand trial.

King, who was fired earlier this year after he was charged with attempted murder, has jumped bail.

Officer 3139 Deveaux, who was involved in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Gino Finley Jr. on May 23, 2017, also failed to appear in court.

As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Meanwhile, 3859 Sturrup, who was also involved in Finley’s shooting, was granted $9,500 bail and ordered to return to court on September 25.

The Coroner granted bail in the same sum to Inspector Akeem Wilson, who was involved in two fatal shootings, 3096 Wright, 3731 Greenslade, 3725 Young, 2825 Sweeting, 3039 Johnson, 3726 Rolle, 3353 Brown, and Inspectors H Curtis and Akeem Wilson.

The bailed officers are interested parties in the inquest into the deaths of Deangelo Evans, Shanton Munroe, Azario Major, Harold Brown, Ernest Forest, and Elroy Stubbs.

They are due to return to court on September 25 when it is expected that they’ll learn whether the Director of Public Prosecutions will prosecute them.
