U.S.A. – With the regular season fast approaching, Deandre Ayton made headlines with his recent comments on his offseason work alongside his all-star teammates.

Ayton, acquired by the Lakers in the offseason, revealed he’s yet to share the floor with either Luka Doncic or Lebron James so far during training camp sessions.

He added that he’s looking forward to building chemistry with both superstars, saying he expects that connection to develop quickly once they get the opportunity.

And it appears the big three is still weeks away from that happening after it was revealed that James will be sidelined 3-4 weeks with sciatica.

After joining the Lakers following a stint in portland, Ayton is expected to be a key piece in the team’s frontcourt, anchoring the defense and adding a strong presence around the rim as L.A. pushes for a deep postseason run.

The Lakers continue their preseason on Sunday against Buddy Hield and the Golden State Warriors.

Sailing

The Fidelity Bahamas Optimist Dinghy National Sailing Championships, took center stage at Montague highlighted by a first for one club.

Long Island’s own Drake Knowles made history this weekend, winning the overall trophy at the event, the first ever for the Mack Knowles Junior Sailing Club.

The two-day event at Montagu Bay featured 68 young sailors from across The Bahamas and one from Texas, battling through strong winds on Saturday and light conditions on Sunday.

In the green fleet, Harbour Island Sailing Club dominated, while Texas’ Madeline McMahon was the top female in the championship fleet.

Clara Wallas of Hope Town was the top Bahamian girl.

UB Athletics

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes active fall sports season continues both at home and abroad.

In women’s volleyball, captain Anjeniker Joseph and outside hitter Hannah McBride each recorded four kills, but it wasn’t enough.

The Mingoes dropped their season opener in the NPVA against the Lady Warhawks in four sets: 26-24, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-17.

Over in men’s soccer in Hialeah, UB played to a 0–0 draw with United International College.

The Mingoes outshot UIC 10 to 2, and a Joshua Johnson header hit the crossbar late — but was ruled out.

After four international matches, the Mingoes now hold a 1–1–2 record. They return to South Florida next week for games against millennia Atlantic University on October 16 and Albizu University on October 18.
