NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Team Bahamas Champs finished with the silver medal at the 2026 PONY Baseball 14U Caribbean and Latin American Zone Championships after falling to Puerto Rico in Tuesday’s gold medal game at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium.

Puerto Rico claimed the tournament title and secured the region’s berth to next month’s Colt World Series in Pennsylvania.

The Bahamas Champs team closed the tournament with a 4-2 record.

Meanwhile, Team Bahamas Host finished fourth overall after dropping the bronze medal game to Venezuela 15-10. The hosts ended the tournament with a 2-3 record.

Track and Field

The Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations has provided an update on the selection process for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

For the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, the Bahamas Olympic Committee requested recommendations for a team of five male and five female athletes.

Selections were based on World Athletics rankings from 2025 through March 2026.

The BAAA noted that three of the originally selected athletes became unavailable, primarily due to injury, and have since been replaced using the 2026 World Athletics rankings.

The Bahamas Olympic Committee is expected to officially announce the team in the coming weeks.

For the CAC Games, The Bahamas has been allocated seven male and seven female athlete positions. Selections will be determined using the official CAC rankings following the June 8 qualification deadline.

The BAAA also confirmed that any athlete selected to represent The Bahamas at the Commonwealth Games will be ineligible to compete at the CAC Games.

FIBA World Cup Qualifiers

The Bahamas Basketball Federation has named Mikhail McLean as head coach of the senior men’s national team for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas qualifying window next month.

McLean will lead Team Bahamas when it hosts two key games against Jamaica on July 3 and Puerto Rico on July 6 as the team continues its pursuit of a place in the next stage of the World Cup qualification process.

McLean currently serves as an assistant coach with the Kentucky Wildcats under head coach Mark Pope.

Earlier this year, Kentucky rewarded McLean with a contract extension through the 2026-27 season after his first year on staff.

McLean is no stranger to the national team setup.

Since 2021, he has served as an assistant coach with the senior men’s team and has been part of several major international campaigns, both regionally and internationally.

MLB

New York Yankees All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. delivered the game-winning hit Tuesday night, blasting a solo home run in the eighth inning to lift the New York Yankees to a 3-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field.

With the game tied 2-2, Chisholm launched a solo shot off Cleveland reliever Tim Herrin to break the deadlock and provide the eventual winning run.

The homer was his third in his last six games.

As the Yankees secured the victory in Cleveland, they became the first American League team to reach 40 wins this season.
