Bahamas Scores Pivotal Road Win in Uruguay

URUGUAY – Team Bahamas has opened the second round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifiers with a pivotal road win, holding off Uruguay 103-94 in front of a hostile crowd at the Antel Arena in Montevideo.

Playing with just 10 players, the Bahamas controlled much of the game, leading for nearly 38 minutes and building a 17-point advantage in the second quarter.

But Uruguay refused to go away.

The hosts closed the first half on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to 54-48, then continued to chip away in the second half.

With 5:33 remaining, Joaquín Rodríguez put Uruguay ahead 83-82, their first lead since early in the game.

That’s when the Bahamas’ veteran leadership kicked in.

Buddy Hield answered with a three-pointer to put the Bahamas back in front, and after Uruguay tied the game at 85, Domnick Bridgewater immediately responded at the free-throw line.

From there, the Bahamas finished the game on a 14-4 run over the final 3:27, including a 9-0 burst that turned a one-possession game into a double-digit Bahamian lead.

Bridgewater was clutch down the stretch, scoring six of his 25 points in those final three minutes and knocking down all four of his free-throw attempts. He finished with 25 points, five rebounds and nine assists.

Hield led all Bahamian scorers with 28 points, seven rebounds and four assists, including six three-pointers on 11 attempts. FIBA notes that it was his third-highest-scoring game with the Bahamas national team.

Isaiah Mobley added 18 points and six rebounds, Franco Miller Jr. had 13 points and four assists, Kai Jones contributed 10 points, and Jaraun Burrows provided nine points and seven rebounds.

The Bahamas now improves to 3-4, while Uruguay drops to 5-2.

And with the second round now underway, this could prove to be one of the most important wins of the campaign.

Football prospect Brody Knowles has opened his senior season with a monster performance, helping Southlake Carroll pull off one of the biggest comebacks in program history.

The Illinois commit caught seven passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns, as Southlake Carroll erased a 27-point deficit to stun Jenks, Oklahoma, 34-33 at the Cotton Bowl.

Jenks jumped out to a 27-0 lead, but Knowles got Southlake Carroll on the board with a 19-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 27-14 at halftime.

After Carroll continued to chip away at the deficit, Knowles delivered again in the fourth quarter.

With the Dragons trailing 33-21, he caught a deep pass and turned it into a 54-yard touchdown, cutting the Jenks lead to just five.

Knowles finished with an impressive 25.7 yards per catch, and his big-play ability was a major part of Carroll’s second-half turnaround.

For Knowles, it’s an early statement as he begins his final high school season, and a pretty good way to show his future team at Illinois what he can do.
