NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Our colleagues at 10th Year Seniors reported yesterday that The Bahamas team has been removed from Davis Cup play without the authorization of the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association’s (BLTA) Interim Board.

The board believes that past president Perry Newton was behind the move.

Newton was ousted in March when frustrations with his leadership came to a head, leading to members staging an emergency meeting to remove him.

Since then, however, the international tennis association was unclear on who was actually running the show, as the BLTA thinks that Newton used this opening to withdraw the team.

The Bahamas squad went undefeated in Davis Cup play last year, earning a promotion to Zone 3.

They were poised to build on their strong showing, playing a tie in Costa Rica this summer before they were surprised with the news about the withdrawal.

Interim BLTA President Marvin Rolle expressed his disappointment with these developments.

Bahamians Across the Diamond

Jazz Chisholm put on his big boy pants last night, literally.

The 5’11” New York Yankees’ second baseman played in his 6’5″ 250 pound teammate Giancarlo Stanton’s pants, which he says he wore to help him bust out of a slump, and guess what, it worked!

He went 3-4 with a double, a walk, 2 RBI, and he stole a base to power his Yankees to a 5-2 subway series win over their intra-city rival, the New York Mets.

Pitcher Cam Schlittler went 6 and 2/3 innings on the mound, surrendering only 2 hits and one run, and also struck out 9 hitters in that span.

Coach Antoan Richardson and his Atlanta Braves eeked out a 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox in extras.

Drake Baldwin went 2-4 with a home run.

Then, Mike Yazstremski hit a single in the 10th inning to score automatic runner Ha-Seong Kim for the walk-off win.

Down in the minors, Kristian Robinson continues to mash at the minors’ highest level.

The outfielder went 2-5 with a triple, a single, an RBI, a stolen base, and also scored 2 runs to help his Reno Aces get a 9-8 win over the Las Vegas Aviators.

He’s having an outstanding season, hitting .300 even with 4 home runs, 7 stolen bases and a .904 OPS.
