NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Bahamas Senior Men’s National Basketball Team is set to return to the court next month – this time, with Americup 2025 qualification on the line.
Up first will be what federation executives are calling a must-win game against Cuba in group D on Thursday, February 20 at 8:40 pm.
In game two, The Bahamas will face the United States, Sunday, February 23 at 7:10 pm.
Both games will be hosted at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
Tickets for next month’s games are currently on sale, follow the Bahamas Basketball Federation’s social media pages for prompts on how you can get yours.
The Bahamas heads into the final window with a 1-3 win loss record.
Their lone win of the qualifiers was an 88-77 win over Puerto Rico in the first window.
The USA leads group d at 3-1, followed by Puerto Rico at 2-2, and Cuba third – also at 2-2.
Only the top three teams in group d will advance to the FIBA Americup to be hosted in Managua, Nicaragua in August.
UB Athletics
UB Mingoes athletics picked up a pair of wins on the volleyball court and the soccer pitch.
The Mingoes’ continued their women’s volleyball showcase with a three-set sweep over the Midnight Aces.
UB won the match 25-12, 26-24 and 25-20 at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium.
The Mingoes got their first win of the showcase and are now 1-3.
Leading the way for UB was Miracle Stubbs with 11 attacking points and 10 of her team’s 30 kills.
Hannah McBride also had eight kills while Shantana Etienne led the aces with five kills.
The showcase continues Tuesday, January 28 when the Mingoes face the Spikers at 7 pm.
In soccer, the Mingoes came out the Christmas break with a 7-0 win over Cavalier FC at the Roscow Davies Soccer Fields.
Midfielder Kevin Thomas led UB with a hat trick.
Philip Pilgrim, Ronaldo Green, Elijah Mitchell, and Marlon Barnes also scored goals, while goalkeeper, Antonio Beckford got the clean sheet.
UB is now 6-2 in the BFA men’s league standings.
They return to action this Sunday, January 26 against future Stars FC at 4:45 pm.
