NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Haiti has been grappling with severe political, social, and economic turmoil since the assassination of president Jovenel Moïse in July 2021.

Most recently, a Spirit Airlines flight was shot at, as it attempted to land in Port-Au-Prince.

Bahamian businessman Pierre Mackey who lives in Haiti, says unfortunately these new violent acts come as no surprise.

The situation on the ground, sparking concern in the region.

Even former Prime Minister Perry Christie, a member of CARICOM’s Eminent Persons Group, has been tasked with helping find solutions to the dire crisis.

This week, Haiti saw the appointment of a new prime minister, but Mackey isn’t optimistic.
