UNITED STATES – Jazz Chisholm avoided arbitration with the Yankees over the offseason, and now he’s back with the Bronx Bombers.

The 27 year old second baseman from New Providence is coming off a career year where he hit a patriotic .242 with a career high 31 home runs, stole 30 bases and drove in a career high 80 rbi.

For his outstanding effort he was named an American League All-Star and he was given the Silver Slugger Award for second base, given to the best offensive player at every position.

Antoan Richardson was lauded for his efforts to turn the Mets into a base-stealing machine. But when the season was over, and his contract was up, the first-base and outfield coach from New Providence signed up with the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves had the season from hell last year, going 76- 86 in a year when they fully expected to win the division. They’re betting that Richardson’s attention to detail on base running and outfield defense can help them get back into the playoffs.

Sebastian Walcott of the Texas Rangers’ organization is the 7th ranked in baseball but the 19 year-old’s dream is being deferred.

It was announced on Thursday that he will miss the season with elbow surgery.

Kristian Robinson of the Arizona Diamondbacks showed off his speed and power at the minor league’s highest levels last year, hitting .254 with 17 home runs, 34 stolen bases, and an .818 ops in aa and aaa. Let’s see if this is the year he breaks through to the majors.

BJ Murray of the Chicago Cubs organization got sent back down to AA where he had a solid season hitting 18 home runs with 89 rbi and he repped for the islands with a .242 batting average. Hopefully he can regain his major league trajectory.

College Basketball

Rhema Collins had a big night to help her Florida International University Panthers eke out a 67-65 win over Sam Houston State.

The 6’2″ junior forward from New Providence put in a monumental effort, scoring 24 points, and blocking 4 shots in 38 of a possible 40 minutes to power FIU to the win.

She also hit a clutch bucket down the stretch and got defensive stop to help secure the win.

Syracuse needed every single one of Donny Freeman’s 18 points and 4 blocks to pull out a 79-78 win over Southern Methodist University.

He also contributed 5 rebounds and 3 assists to the effort. Nate Kingz hit a tough go-ahead bucket with less than 3 seconds left to get the win for ‘Cuse and Kiyan Anthony, son of Syracuse legend Carmelo came off the bench for 13.
