King’s Breakout Campaign Pays Off In MVC Awards

UNITED STATES – Fredrick King transferred from Creighton to Murray State in the offseason and immediately became one of the elite players in the Missouri Valley Conference.

King earned first-team All-MVC after leading the league in rebounding at 8.4 boards per game.

He also added 13.2 points per game, ranking tenth in the conference in scoring while providing consistent production on both ends of the floor.

He also dominated defensively. King led the league in blocked shots, while also earning a spot on the MVC all-defensive team.

In addition to first team honors, King was named the MVC newcomer of the year and was also selected to the all-newcomer team.

Murray State is entering the State Farm March Madness MVC tournament as the no. 4 seed.

The racers will face the no. 5 seed UIC Flames on Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri.

NBA

DeAndre Ayton finished with 13 points on 6-8 shooting from the field, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the Los Angeles Lakers 110-101 win over the New Orleans Pelicans at Crypto Arena in LA.

The Lakers overcame a fourth-quarter deficit and a whopping 21 turnovers.

They went on a 14-0 run in that final frame and ended the night on a 24-7 run to seal the victory.

In the seven games since the all-star break, the Lakers are 4-3, and Ayton’s numbers have fluctuated with playing time.

He’s averaging 10 points and 7.6 rebounds in 25 minutes per game, including five games where he’s played less than 25 minutes.

The Lakers still lead the Pacific at 37-24 and have won their last three, heading into Thursday night’s matchup against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Mingoes Volley Ball

The Mingoes ladies extended their win streak to four with a straight-set win over the Aces in New Providence Volleyball Association play.

They won the match 25-16, 25-19, 25-15 at the D.W. Davis gym

UB set the tone early in the opening set, and after the Aces came within three, the Mingoes closed on a run with 6 unanswered.

The second set followed a similar script. UB again jumped out front,

The gap closed, but they again extended the lead late to take the set.

In the third, the Mingoes went up by 11 early and were never threatened.

The Mingoes will face a tougher test when they take on the second-place Lady Warhawks on Friday at 7:30pm
